Lossy vs. Lossless:
Lossy eliminates "unecessary" bits of info. making the file smaller. Lossless makes makes the file smaller but it makes the picture distirted.
Vector vs. Pixel Graphics:
Vector looks better when you expand the picture.
6 Major Graphic file types:
JPEG- is a lossy compression technique for color images; compresses color and grey scale for continuous line images.
GIF- is a lossless compression technique which only supports 256 colors: better for line drawings.
TIFF- image storage without compression
BITMAP- uncompressed; no reason to use
RAW- lossless digital camera format
PNG- a image in a lossless PNG file;can be 5-25% more compressed than a GIF file on the same image
